Advancing Microbiome Science and Responsible Translation in Viet Nam

WHY MICROBIOME MATTERS
Microbiome Science in the Vietnamese Context
The human microbiome includes diverse communities of microorganisms that interact with the human body and may be influenced by nutrition, lifestyle, medicines, environmental exposures, age, and health status.
Research is expanding our understanding of the microbiome's relationships with metabolism, immunity, nutrition, and different states of health and disease. However, many findings remain emerging and require further validation before they can be translated into routine healthcare.
Microbiome characteristics can also vary across individuals and populations. Evidence generated in one population therefore cannot always be assumed to apply directly to another.
For Viet Nam, this creates opportunities to better understand microbiome science within local dietary, lifestyle, environmental, population, and healthcare contexts.
Microbiome Vietnam aims to help connect existing research, identify knowledge gaps, and support multidisciplinary collaboration relevant to Viet Nam while complementing, rather than replacing, the work of existing researchers and institutions.
OUR FOCUS
Our Focus
Microbiome Science, Evidence & Translation
Nutrition, Metabolism & Health Across the Life Course
Microbiome, Environment & the Exposome
Emerging Applications & Therapeutics
Supporting evidence synthesis, scientific communication, and critical interpretation of microbiome research, with attention to the strength, limitations, applicability, and responsible translation of available evidence.
Exploring relationships among diet, microbial communities, metabolism, immune function, functional health, and healthy longevity from early life through adulthood and aging.
Examining interactions among microbial ecosystems, lifestyle, medicines, environmental exposures, and other biological and contextual factors that may influence health.
Following developments in microbiome-based diagnostics, live biotherapeutic products, microbiota-based therapeutics, next-generation probiotics, prebiotics, postbiotics, microbial metabolites, and other emerging approaches, with attention to evidence, safety, clinical relevance, and regulatory development.
EVIDENCE & RESPONSIBLE TRANSLATION
Microbiome science is rapidly evolving. Microbiome Vietnam takes an evidence-first approach to help distinguish promising scientific discovery from applications that are sufficiently validated for clinical or public health use.
Our approach is based on three principles:
Evidence Before Claims
Validation Before Personalization
Context and Uncertainty Matter
Association does not necessarily establish causation, and detecting microbial differences does not automatically establish a clinically meaningful diagnosis.
Microbiome tests and microbiome-guided dietary, supplement, or therapeutic recommendations require appropriate validation and evidence of clinical relevance before routine use.
Microbiome findings may vary across populations, diets, environments, medications, laboratory methods, and clinical indications. Emerging or experimental findings should therefore be communicated transparently and not generalized beyond the available evidence.
We distinguish between established, emerging, experimental, and exploratory evidence.
Microbiome science requires collaboration across medicine, microbiology, nutrition, public health, epidemiology, bioinformatics, biotechnology, environmental health, data science, and related disciplines.
Microbiome Vietnam welcomes collaboration involving evidence reviews, research development, feasibility and pilot studies, scientific workshops, capability building, academic exchange, joint publications, and responsible translation of emerging microbiome science.
We welcome dialogue with universities, research institutes, hospitals, healthcare organizations, researchers, clinicians, laboratories, biotechnology organizations, international research networks, research funders, and responsible industry partners.

About Microbiome Vietnam
Microbiome Vietnam is a multidisciplinary initiative developed and operated by VietnamWellcare.
Our purpose is to connect international microbiome science with the Vietnamese research, healthcare, public health, and population context through rigorous evidence, multidisciplinary collaboration, and responsible innovation.
We seek to complement and connect existing scientific work and do not claim to be the official national representative of microbiome science in Viet Nam.
Scientific Integrity • Evidence-Based Communication • Responsible Innovation • Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Information provided through Microbiome Vietnam is intended for education, research, scientific communication, and professional knowledge exchange and should not be interpreted as individual medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
